Final Countdown for the Compton Half
With just eight weeks to go until the inaugural Compton Half, organisers are encouraging runners of all abilities to secure their place at what promises to be one of the Midlands’ most exciting new running events.
Taking place on Sunday 27 September 2026, the 13.1-mile race will start and finish at WV Active Aldersley Stadium, offering participants a professionally delivered event in support of local charity Compton Care.
The Compton Half will take runners through Compton, the Smestow Valley and surrounding green corridors, following a predominantly flat course that is ideal for both seasoned athletes chasing personal bests and those taking on their first half marathon challenge.
As excitement builds ahead of race day, organisers say hundreds of runners have already signed up to take part in the charity fundraising event, which will help support Compton Care’s specialist palliative and bereavement services across the region.
Emily Thompson, Community and Events Manager at Compton Care, said: “With just eight weeks to go, we’re really starting to feel the excitement building for the very first Compton Half. We’ve had a fantastic response so far, with runners of all abilities signing up to be part of this special event. Whether you’re aiming for a personal best, taking on your first half marathon or running to raise vital funds for Compton Care, there’s still time to get involved.”

Participants can expect chip timing, water stations, on-course support and a vibrant event village atmosphere, with every finisher receiving a commemorative medal.
Councillor Obaida Ahmed, the City of Wolverhampton Council’s Cabinet Member for Health, Wellbeing and Community, said: “Events like this encourage people to get active, challenge themselves and enjoy the many physical and mental wellbeing benefits that running can bring.”

Every year, Compton Care supports local people living with life limiting conditions through a wide range of specialist services all provided free of charge. These include care on its Inpatient Unit, support for patients in their own homes, and specialist bereavement services for families coping with loss. The charity also operates a dedicated 24/7 Advice and Referral Line offering guidance, information and support whenever it is needed.
