Pancreatic Cancer UK Fundraiser

Regular readers may recall me mentioning, in the last issue of my magazines, that I’d be walking 2 miles a day throughout June, to raise money for Pancreatic Cancer UK.

I’ve lost a couple of friends to this ‘silent killer’ which doesn’t give off many symptoms until it’s too late, so I wanted to do my bit to try and help.

To date, due to the generosity of friends, family and readers, I’ve raised a respectable £591, plus £125 in gift aid, so well over £700 in total.

Overall, this initiative has achieved over a quarter of a million pounds.

Our vision is a world where everyone with pancreatic cancer survives to live long and well.

We are Pancreatic Cancer UK. We go above and beyond for everyone affected by this disease. Pancreatic cancer is the deadliest common cancer.

More than half of people die within three months of diagnosis. With research underfunded and left behind, people are left with only hope to hold onto.

When you begin a race from behind, you have two choices. To remain behind or run faster. To do nothing. Or do more. So, whoever we are – researcher, campaigner, nurse, supporter – we do more.

We bring more breakthroughs through research, more change through campaigning, and more support through our expert nurses and information. We make a noise because people have gone unheard. We are relentless because the disease is ruthless. We care more because people feel forgotten. Whatever we do, we give it everything and then some. We bring better detection, better support and better treatments. So that we can create a world where everyone with pancreatic cancer lives long and lives well. Because people with pancreatic cancer deserve more than hope.

• Pancreatic cancer is the 10th most common cancer with an average of 10,787 peoplediagnosed annually between 2017 and 2019.
• Pancreatic cancer is the 5th biggest cancer killerin the UK with 9,558 deaths per year between 2017 and 2019.
• Pancreatic cancer has the lowest survival of all common cancers, with five-year survival less than 7%. Five-year survival of pancreatic cancer in the UK lags behind the rest of the world, with the UK ranking 29th out of 33 countries with comparable data
