Wombourne man takes on 25 half marathons
Andrew Rogers, an Ambassador at Compton Care, is embarking on an extraordinary challenge to complete 25 half marathons throughout 2025, covering an impressive 327.5 miles to raise vital funds for the charity.
Compton Care provides palliative care and bereavement support to individuals with life limiting conditions, and Andrew’s dedication to the cause is deeply personal. Having witnessed the outstanding care his parents received during their final stages of life, Andrew (58) was inspired to give back. Initially serving as a trustee for three years, he now actively supports the charity in his role as an Ambassador.
So far this year Andrew has participated in notable events including the Wolves 10k, Great Birmingham Half marathon, Solihull half, and he took on the London Marathon ‘My Way’ race in April. He is also gearing up to take part in the Great North Run in September. This is all leading up to tackling the prestigious Chicago Marathon in October. His commitment to fundraising is nothing new – back in 2022, Andrew and his daughter Ellie successfully completed a 12 million step challenge. Through this and all their other challenges, their fundraising total currently stands at an impressive £18,841 for Compton Care.
Speaking about what motivates him, Andrew said: “Compton Care has played such an important part in my family’s lives. Both my parents received support from Compton towards the end of their lives, as did my mother-in-law more recently. The care they received from the devoted staff was outstanding, as was the kindness and compassion we received.
“I pledged to give something back to Compton Care as a way of showing my appreciation. During the pandemic, I felt the time was right, so I became a trustee and took on the London Marathon with my daughter Ellie, raising over £7,000. I well and truly caught the running bug, and I’m looking forward to completing another big challenge in support of this amazing charity, helping ensure it can be there for more local families in their time of greatest need.”
Community and Events Manager at Compton Care, Emily Thompson, added: “Andrew’s unwavering dedication to Compton Care is nothing short of inspirational. His 25 in 25 challenge is a powerful testament to the impact our care has on families, and we are incredibly grateful for his continued support.
“Every mile he runs helps ensure we can be there for more people facing the toughest of times in our local communities. We’re proud to have Andrew as part of #TeamCompton and support him throughout this incredible journey.”
