Leader “delighted” as new TV drama filmed in Dudley
The leader of Dudley Council has welcomed the production of a major new television drama, with iconic Dudley borough locations set to feature in the programme.
The Cadburys will be a six-part historical drama telling the story of the pioneering Cadbury family, and their journey from cocoa industry underdogs to creators of one of the world’s most recognisable chocolate brands.
Dudley borough has played host to cast and crew during filming, with Wordsley Manor providing one of several locations used to bring the period drama to life.
The series, which is being produced by Fable Pictures and is due to air on free-streaming service in 2027, shines a spotlight on the West Midlands’ rich heritage and growing reputation as a centre for film and television production.
The Cadbury family had strong links to the wider Black Country and supported social improvement projects across Dudley and the surrounding area through the philanthropic work of the Barrow Cadbury Trust during the early 20th century.
Dudley Council works closely with Production Central, the West Midlands’ film office, which connects local authorities and production companies to attract and support filming across the region. As well as making it easier for productions to access locations and services, the initiative is helping to create jobs, bring investment into local communities and raise the profile of places such as Dudley on a national stage.
Councillor Patrick Harley, leader of Dudley Council, said:
“We have been delighted to welcome the cast and crew of The Cadburys and it was great to see filming taking place here at Wordsley Manor.
“Dudley Council works with regional and national production companies to promote the borough as a film-friendly destination and this helps to attract investment, supports local businesses and celebrate the area’s rich cultural heritage.
“Dudley has provided iconic filming locations for several TV series and films over the years and through our work with Production Central means we have more exciting opportunities in the pipeline. We and look forward to being featured on screen yet again when The Cadburys series airs next year.”
