Mikron Theatre Company Presents Top of the Wold – Tales from a Mobile library

Mikron Theatre Company, the nation’s most prolific touring theatre company, is delighted to announce one of its 2026 productions, Top of the Wold, will be touring to – Bantock House Museum, Wolverhampton, WV3 9LQ

Top of the Wold invites audiences to hop aboard the charmingly quirky mobile library for a hilarious and heartwarming journey. Via Bempton, Bridlington, Hornsea, and Howden, the play explores a region barely noticed by the nation it feeds, celebrating the forgotten, the resilient, and the wonderfully eccentric.

Bursting with original songs, this brand-new play dives into chapters teeming with the lives of then and now, proving that if the story of a county is written in a book, the library is the spine that shows you where to look. This show was developed in partnership with the East Riding Mobile Library Service.

This journey through a patchwork of culture and community marks a monumental year for Mikron as they celebrate their 54th year of touring and the 90th birthday of their beloved vintage narrowboat, Tyseley. The production will tour nationally by canal, river, and road until Oct 24th.

“Mikron is known for telling untold stories and this wonderful show with original music is crafted by Maeve Larkin as she observes the voices of a unique county and it’s people” said Marianne McNamara, Mikron’s Artistic Director “It celebrates the importance of mobile libraries as sanctuaries, beacons of hope, public services that connect people and communities in a digital age where human connection is more important than ever.”

As Mikron enters its 54th year, the company remains dedicated to bringing professional theatre to unconventional spaces, performing at over 130 different venues annually from allotments and fish and chip shops to pubs, village greens and even the odd theatre.

In keeping with Mikron’s commitment to inclusivity, every performance of Top of the Wold includes integrated audio description. This innovative approach ensures the performance is accessible to visually impaired audiences without the need for headsets. Additionally, touch tours are available at every performance.
