Birmingham Born Celebrity Hairdresser Wins Industry Icon Award
Celebrity hairdresser Jay Birmingham – stylist to Maya Jama, Rochelle Humes, Amelia Dimoldenberg and Munroe Bergdorf, among many others – has been named Industry Icon at the nationwide Hair and Beauty Awards (HBA) 2025.
To enter the HBAs, hair and beauty professionals typically select a category and complete a detailed submission form. This gives entrants the chance to share their story, showcase their work, and provide evidence of their talent and achievements. From these submissions, the HBA panel reviews and selects a National Top 50, who are then celebrated at the prestigious Grand Final Red-Carpet Event.
However, Jay received an exceptional honour – he did not need to enter or submit an application. Instead, he was nominated for the award and subsequently reviewed and selected by a panel of industry experts, who awarded him the prestigious Industry Icon title in recognition of his remarkable rise and unparalleled expertise.
The Industry Icon Award is a brand-new category introduced for 2025, created to celebrate true trendsetters and innovators within the industry.
Now a household name in hairdressing, Jay continues to attract a star-studded clientele and inspire hair professionals around the world. His career has seen him working with high-profile celebrities for red carpet events, photoshoots and magazine covers, while also securing brand partnerships and collaborations. He is frequently invited to share his expertise in consumer publications.
In 2023, Jay expanded his influence further by launching Jay B Haircare, his own premium range of products, which he uses on clients, and which has quickly gained traction among consumers.
Jay was officially presented with his Industry Icon Award at the HBA Grand Final Red-Carpet Event on Saturday 30th August 2025 at the International Convention Centre, in Birmingham – an unforgettable night of celebration for the industry. Guests enjoyed a glamorous red-carpet reception, a three-course dining experience, the announcement of the Top 50 and category winners, trophy presentations, and a night of networking and dancing. Entertainment included a headline performance by The Wanted, alongside other spectacular acts.
Commenting on his win at the awards, Jay Birmingham said: “When I think about where it all started, I remember those first clients who gave me a chance when I was still finding my feet. They believed in me before the world knew my name. That belief meant everything, and it still does.
To be standing here now, in a room full of the best in our industry the artists, the creators, the dreamers I feel deeply proud. Because this has never been just a job for me. It’s been my passion, my purpose, and sometimes… my entire life.
In my twenties, I didn’t have much of a life outside of this. I gave everything to it. Early mornings, late nights, missed holidays, skipped weddings… but every bit of that heat, that hustle, that heart led me here.
Thank you to everyone who has always supported me and my dream you know who you are!”
