Chamber Boss Responds to Rising Inflation

Black Country Chamber CEO, Sarah Moorhouse, responds to the latest inflation data published by the Office for National Statistics (ONS)

“Inflation remains a pressing issue for businesses in the Black Country. July’s inflation rate exceeded expectations, marking the fastest price rise since early 2024. This trend is worrying our local SMEs, many of which are already grappling with cost pressures from rising national insurance, wage demands, and tariffs.

“In the Black Country, where manufacturing and small businesses form a vital part of the economy, these pressures are especially acute. Firms are calling for relief, especially in the form of no new business taxes in the upcoming Budget, as persistent inflation threatens to stall interest rate cuts and hinder growth.

“The message to policymakers is clear: support is needed to ease financial burdens so that businesses in regions like the Black Country can continue to drive economic recovery and job creation.

“Add your voice: you must complete the Quarterly Economic Survey and tell us what cost pressures you are facing this quarter. The more businesses unite, the more powerful our voice can be as preparations ramp up for the approaching Budget.”
