Best Curry House in Birmingham – Revealed!

A restaurant that attracts curry fans from all over the country to Sheldon has been named as the best curry house in Birmingham.

The winners of the 14th English Curry Awards 2025 were announced at a prestigious ceremony at Birmingham’s Eastside Rooms on Monday, August 11.

The awards are designed to shine a spotlight on the remarkable talents within the British curry industry, with this year’s finalists described as the ‘crème de la crème’ of the country’s curry chefs, restaurateurs and takeaways.

The Best of Birmingham award went to Titash in Coventry Road, a father-and-son curry house that has been in Sheldon since 1987. The family-run restaurant was named the best curry house in the West Midlands at the first ever British Curry Championships back in June. Owner Jameel Ali said Titash gets customers from 200 miles away, partly due to its convenient location close to Birmingham Airport and the NEC.

“When you visit Birmingham, customers have to try a balti,” he said. “We do a chicken balti for £9.50 which a lot of people order from other cities.

“We get people from Cornwall and Plymouth who say ‘you can’t beat a Birmingham curry’.”

The restaurant’s signature balti attracts rave reviews online, too, with one recent visitor writing: “The best Balti dish ever. One I tried it, I come her twice a month. Reasonable prices with generous portion size.”

The Outstanding Achievement award in the Best of Birmingham category went to Pushkar on Broad Street, which recently reopened after a major refurbishment, and BLANC NRI Birmingham Indian Cuisine was ‘recognised for excellence’.

Lavang in Solihull won Curry Restaurant of the Year for the West Midlands.

In the South Indian Restaurant Of The Year category, the Outstanding Achievement award went to Chennai Parotta in Birmingham’s Soho Road.

Charsi Dera in Yardley’s Coventry Road won Afghani Restaurant Of The Year, while Kabuli in Moseley was recognised for excellence.

Alamgir in Sparkbrook was recognised for excellence in the Pakistani Restaurant Of The Year category, as was Veg Darbar in the Vegetarian of the Year group.

The Outstanding Achievement award in the Street Food Cafe Food of the Year category went to Parantha Corner in Boulton Road.

And in the Street Food Restaurant of the Year category, Tiffin Walay won Outstanding Achievement and Tamatanga in the city centre was recognised for excellence.

Chutney Express Takeaway in Castle Bromwich was recognised for excellence as a runner-up for Takeaway of the Year

Finally, in the Curry Champions of the Year group, Sabi’s Kitchen in Great Hampton Row won the Outstanding Achievement and Varanasi was recognised for excellence.
